Children's Education and Literacy

Delta Phi Omega Sorority, Inc. is dedicated in its mission to excel past the traditional conceptions of a sorority by emphasizing the vital power and passion of service. With this stress on the commitment to service, the sisters of Delta Phi Omega strive beyond the barriers, remaining adamant in their proactive efforts to improve the community. The sisters engage in a wide field of philanthropic services. However, the sorority’s paramount goal is to bring awareness to the noble cause of children’s literacy and education.

The children of today are exemplified as the leaders of tomorrow. In order to succeed, they must maintain the skills to develop and advance in today’s perpetually changing world. Through the means of education, children are able to reach their full potential in reaching scholastic success.

Regardless of race, religion, class, or any other factor, high-quality education should be a viable opportunity for all. When children are granted education and the ability to read they are allowed to express themselves, showcasing their innovative ideas to the world. With this notion in mind, the sisters of Delta Phi Omega are engaging in various community service projects which aid in the mission to give each child the means to proper education and the ability to read and write.

By promoting awareness of the worldwide issue of illiteracy, the sorority participates in fundraising and volunteering aimed towards the philanthropy for children’s education and literacy. Through Literacy Through Unity Week, a week of service events intended to raise money for our Nationally chosen beneficiary, Delta Phi Omega has raised over $34,000 for the cause this past academic year.

Alongside our Literacy Through Unity Week, Delta Phi Omega, in collaboration with other South Asian-interest organizations, hosts Be The Change day in October. The purpose of Be The Change day is meant to improve the conditions of the community. With our combined efforts, together we can help advance the idea that “Knowledge is Power.
